After five years of designing campaigns, tools and neat ideas in support of a conservation movement, we have updated our overall strategy.
I am amazed how something so radical can be so simple, but it is. It's a little like that line in the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy: "the secret to flying is to throw yourself at the ground and miss". In this case, the secret to building a conserver society is to simply do it.
What we've found over the past five years is that we have reached the tipping point. There are enough people that want to live a greener lifestyle, and enough companies that want to make money without destroying the earth, that we have reached the critical mass required to sustain a green economy. True, we are still a small percentage of the traditional and super-consumptive society, but for the first time in modern history we can actually point to evidence of a conserver society (e.g. the number of folks on bikes) and a green economy (solar panels, farmers markets, green labelling etc).
Collectively, we've made it. And it is only because a whole bunch of people made personal decisions to live better by living a little more lightly.
So now the challenge is to build on the momentum of the past two decades. And that's where our strategy comes in. We've scoped the top priorities for a conserver society, and laid out four strategic actions: promote conservation, promote leaderships, organize ourselves, and be innovative!
